Lecture Note Week 02:

In this week's lecture, we learned about "Character Design Basics". This lecture is a great starting point for us to know and practice when it comes to designing memorable characters.

Stylised Design

  • Iconic - Think silhouette
  • Simplicity - Think purpose
  • Unique - Think memorable

Principles of Character Design

  • Shape
    • Design a character's silhouette to identify a character from one another.
    • (Ex) circles-friendly, squares-protagonists, triangles-unpredictable and aggreesive

WEEK 2: EXERCISE (SILHOUETTE)

After finnishing the shape tracing, Mr Hafiz let us to start our Task 01: Exercise - Part 01: Vormator Challenge Character.
Task 01: Exercise- Part 01: Vormator Challenge Character
Vormator challenge is the ultimate challenge of creativity. It challenges artists to create a visual by using eight vector shapes within a given set of rules.

Mr Hafiz assigned us to use the Vormator shaped we traced to create a black silhouette of a character.

Example of Vormator Challenge:

Figure 2.9  This is what it should look like

At first, I play and explore the shapes. Thus, I came out with these two character.
The character at the left side is a practice, and the character at the right is the final outcome of exercise today (black silhouette).
