Task 02:  Visual Analysis

This task requires you to assess, investigate, document and analyse the existing art/design work you selected in Task 01. You will study the design principles found in that work, as well as the size, placement, purpose, effectiveness of the design in relation to the UNSDG goal that you have chosen.

Requirement (Blog):
  1. Recap Task 2 brief.
  2. Write a 300 to 350 word visual analysis of the selected design (refer to Visual Analysis lecture notes and guide).
  3. Include reference links where applicable.

2. TASK 02: VISUAL ANALYSIS

2.1  Brief

This task requires you to assess, investigate, document and analyse the existing art/design work you selected in Task 01. You will study the design principles found in that work, as well as the size, placement, purpose, effectiveness of the design in relation to the UNSDG goal that you have chosen.

2.2  Visual Anaysis

Chosen Artwork

Tittle: The Valley of Litter
Designer's Name: Karl Taylor
Date: 27/03/2019
Size: N/A
Medium: Digital photograph

2.2.1  Observation

Based on this design work, it rendered in landscape format, centers around a poignant scene featuring a baby gazing directly at the viewer amidst a disheartening tableau.  Surrounding the infant are myriad heaps of garbage and discarded plastics, symbolizing the pervasive environmental degradation plaguing our world.  The backdrop further accentuates the solemn tone, with the sky cast in a foreboding shade of darkness.  The visual composition employs a subdued palette dominated by shades of Tuatara, Indian Khaki, Bay Leaf, and Bermuda Gray, imbuing the piece with a profound sense of gravity and contemplation. (90 words)

2.2.2  Analysis

This paragraph discusses the design's adherence to the Rule of Thirds, creating a balanced composition with a central focus on a baby amidst a landscape of environmental degradation. The contrast between the bright baby and the subdued surroundings emphasizes the innocence of the child against the somber backdrop. Furthermore, the careful selection of colors, all unified in theme and mood, contributes to a sense of harmony and unity throughout the composition. Each element, from the muted tones of Tuatara and Bermuda Gray to the subtle accents of Indian Khaki and Bay Leaf, work in tandem to convey a unified message of reflection and awareness. (104 words)

This is a poster (Figure 2.1) inspired by ocean pollution during 27 March 2019. While creating this design work, the inspiration Karl Taylor's used to create this design work is consistent with the ideas expressed in the UNSDG Goal 14. I find out that the illustration style reflects that of ocean pollution in Figure 2.2 and Figure 2.3. All these illustration art (Figure 2.1, 2.2 & 2.3) have the same similarity, both of the artwork want to express ocean pollution. All of these photographs used a unified style, and were all photograph manipulation. They were all modified by various methods and techniques at later stages to achieve the expected effect and purpose. Then, the medium used in these photos is digital art. These artworks serves as a cautionary and educational tool, urging individuals to prioritize ocean conservation. (137 words)

📌 Total word count: 331 words

3. FEEDBACK

Week 04
General Feedback:
  • Further elaborate on phase 1,2 and 3 since the word count of total should be minimum 300 words.
  • Phase 3 need to re-do.
  • If needed Phase 3 should insert link into the picture provided.
Specific Feedback:
  • Task 1 need to add on session "Further Reading"
  • Task 2 need to add on session "Further Reading"

✅ Have make changes on:
  • Had added Further Reading into Task 1 and Task 2.
  • Had further elaborate on phase 1 and 2.
  • Had re-do phase 3.
  • Had insert link and credits for phase 3's pictures.

Week 05
General Feedback:
  • The reference part (repeated) can be deleted.
  • Further reading session can shorten a bit, no need to write a note.
Specific Feedback:
  • Phase 3 should mentioned all of the artwork in one time, but not describe separately.
  • Phase 3 should mention about the style of the artwork but not the theme and abstract meaning of the design artwork.

✅ Have make changes on:
  • Have deleted the reference part because has already stated and no need to repeat again.
  • Have shorten the further reading session.
  • Have replace the unwanted session on phase 3 with the "style" that used in the design artworks.

4. REFLECTION

In this reflection, I will discuss my experience working on Task 02: Visual Analysis. The assignment was designed to assess, investigate, document and analyse the existing art/design work you selected in Task 01. Throughout this reflection, I will analyze my approach to the assignment, reflect on what I learned, and consider areas for improvement.

For Task 2, I was tasked with recap Task 2 brief, write a 300-350 words visual analysis of the selected design and include reference link where applicable. To complete the assignment, I try to observe, analysis and interprete what I have know from the design work. This process involved observe and analysing design principles from the artwork and I also tried to find similarities from the other artworks I found from website. Futhermore, I've also tried to learn and understand why the meaning of the design and what was the purpose for it to be created.

Through working on this assignment, I gained valuable insights into visual analysis an artwork. I found that I have a better observation and analysis skills while going through a design work.

Overall, it is a happy and interesting assignment. 😀👍

5. FURTHER READING

During this task, I have studied an article written by Stephanie Corrigan with the tittle of the article called "Introduction to user interface design: 6 important principles".

🔗Source Link of the article:

In this article, it shares the basic introduction to user interface (UI) design principles, outlining six important principles that designers should consider. I have summary the six main principles of user interface (UI) principles, the six main principles are: Clarity, Consistency, Hierarchy, Feedback, Simplicity and Accessibility.

In UI design, several principles are crucial for creating an effective and user-friendly interface. Clarity ensures elements are easily understandable through clear language, intuitive icons, and straightforward navigation. Consistency maintains uniform design elements like colors, fonts, and layouts, reducing cognitive load. Hierarchy establishes a clear visual structure, guiding users' attention effectively. Feedback provides timely responses to user actions, confirming recognition by the system. Simplicity keeps the interface clean and uncluttered, focusing on essential elements. Accessibility ensures inclusivity by adhering to standards such as alternative text for images and keyboard navigation. These principles work together to enhance the user experience and usability of the interface.

Overall, the article highlights the importance of these principles in guiding the design process and creating UIs that are intuitive, efficient, and enjoyable for users to interact with. By prioritizing clarity, consistency, hierarchy, feedback, simplicity, and accessibility, designers can create interfaces that meet the needs and expectations of their target audience effectively.
